Floating landbridges that moved, clouds beneath and above their feet, and an ever-changing map were all characteristics of the first level for Porthos. It was a level that the team were well familiar with, having trekked and attempted it multiple times. Ever since the loss of their other team members though, the trio had given up on Porthos due to their incompatibility with the monsters within.

“Six behind!” Daniel shouted, leveling the rockbow and aiming at the swooping group of attackers.

He held his fire though, waiting for the monsters to arrive at the optimal range for his modified crossbow. The rockbow slung explosive rocks which shattered under great stress—like being fired from a nocked crossbow-sling at high speeds—and pelted monsters with the shards. The shards themselves did little damage, except to the tender and delicate webbed wings of the monsters attacking them.

Six flying, red-skinned Imps with bat-like wings and long, black grasping claws flew at Daniel as he hunched down, calming his breath. At the right moment, he triggered the attack, watching the rock fly out and explode, catching three of the creatures. One was hit and another spiralled away as they flinched from the attack, the lead Imp taking the attack in the face and clawing at its eyes. The last, its wings shredded, fell past the group, off into the depths of the dungeon.

Before Daniel could ready another attacker, Omrak stepped forward and swung his weapon, bisecting an Imp and warding off the attentions of the other two. As they winged away, one fell as Asin’s thrown knife caught it in the back, taking her weapon with it.

Asin let out a snarled curse, watching her throwing knife disappear—along with the Imp’s Mana stone—before she turned back to scanning for additional dangers. Daniel worked the sling and bow of his rockbow, turning slightly so he could regard the team ahead of them. They were, for the most part, only receiving the stragglers of the swarm that had formed around the Seven Stones team’s attackers.

Watching the group, Daniel could not help but admit they were good. Even thrown together as they were—with only a few of the team members having worked together before, as they’d confirmed over a snack an hour before—they still worked together well. There were occasional hiccups, moments where the group expected another to take over, but for the most part, they knew their roles and did them well.

Scouting ahead, Harlow had fallen further away from the main body of the team and was loosing attacks from his crossbow. To Daniel’s surprise, the wrist bow—a small, one-handed crossbow that could be easily strung and fired one-handed—was an enchanted weapon. Bolts released from the weapon turned into flaming attacks. Of course, the Imps were immune to the fire, but it mattered little when each individual Imp was skewered and sent into the sky.

Standing close to the Mage and archer, Zef had his spear out, waving it around to ward off the Imps. He’d cast it away at the start
